What is PERT chart (Program Evaluation Review Technique) ? A PERT chart is a project management tool used to schedule, organize, and coordinate tasks within a project. PERT stands for Program Evaluation Review Technique, a methodology developed by the U. S. Navy in the 1. Polaris submarine missile program. A similar methodology, the Critical Path Method (CPM) was developed for project management in the private sector at about the same time. A PERT chart presents a graphic illustration of a project as a network diagram consisting of numbered nodes (either circles or rectangles) representing events, or milestones in the project linked by labelled vectors (directional lines) representing tasks in the project. The direction of the arrows on the lines indicates the sequence of tasks. In the diagram, for example, the tasks between nodes 1, 2, 4, 8, and 1. These are called dependent or serial tasks. The tasks between nodes 1 and 2, and nodes 1 and 3 are not dependent on the completion of one to start the other and can be undertaken simultaneously. PERT method (Program Evaluation and Review Technique) is developed by the Ministry of Defense of the USA in 1958 in the framework of the project Polaris. PERT diagram is one of the tools for project management. A Program Evaluation and Review Technique (PERT) is a graphic organizer that can help you plan your project and keep to deadlines. The PERT diagram includes completion times for all sub projects, with numbered milestones that. Using the PERT Analysis Toolbar. PERT is short for Program Evaluation and Review Technique. PERT charts display information about project completion time based on the following set formula: (Optimistic duration + 4 (Expected. If you have been planning and managing a lot of projects, you must be aware of both the terms in the title: critical path method and program evaluation & review technique. Both play an important role in project management and. These tasks are called parallel or concurrent tasks. Tasks that must be completed in sequence but that don't require resources or completion time are considered to have event dependency. These are represented by dotted lines with arrows and are called dummy activities. For example, the dashed arrow linking nodes 6 and 9 indicates that the system files must be converted before the user test can take place, but that the resources and time required to prepare for the user test (writing the user manual and user training) are on another path. Numbers on the opposite sides of the vectors indicate the time allotted for the task. The PERT chart is sometimes preferred over the Gantt chart, another popular project management charting method, because it clearly illustrates task dependencies. On the other hand, the PERT chart can be much more difficult to interpret, especially on complex projects. Frequently, project managers use both techniques. Here are some additional resources for learning about how PERT charts and other project management tools are used in the enterprise: Project management tools and strategies: The Gantt chart and the PERT chart are probably the two best known charts in project management. Each of these can be used for scheduling, but because Gantt charts don't illustrate task dependencies and PERT charts can be confusing, PMs often use both. Project management charts: Beyond Gantt: Gantt charts are good for certain purposes, explains project management expert David Christiansen, but there are other charts PMs have at their disposal. PERT Chart Definition . PERT, or Program Evaluation Review Technique, allows the tasks in a particular project to be analyzed. Although PERT charts are preferable to Gantt charts because they more clearly identify task dependencies, PERT charts are often more difficult to interpret. These nodes are linked by vectors, or lines, that represent various tasks. Dependent tasks are items that are required to be performed in a specific manner. For example, if an arrow is drawn from task one to task two on a PERT chart, task one must be completed before task two. Items at the same stage of production within a project but on different task lines are called parallel tasks. They are independent from one another and, although they are planned to occur at the same time, they are not dependent on one another. Interpreting PERT Charts. A PERT chart is a visual representation of a series of events that must occur within a project’s lifetime. Program Evaluation and Review Technique A discussion on the basics of creating a PERT chart. Program Evaluation and Review Technique 1. Program Evaluation Review Technique (PERT) Report by: Raymund N. Http://www.businessdictionary.com/definition/program-evaluation-and-review-technique-PERT.html. Project Evaluation and Review Technique (PERT) CPM uses a fixed time estimate for each project activity. While easy to understand and use, it does not take account of the time variations that can impact on the completion. Key Difference: Gantt charts and PERT charts are visualization tools that project and breakdown the tasks along with the time it takes to do the particular task. Gantt chart is represented as a bar graph, while PERT chart is. The direction of arrows indications the flow of the sequence of events that need to occur. Dotted activity lines represent dummy activities, which are items located on another PERT path. Numbers assigned to each task, as well as time allotments, are located inside each vector. Benefits of PERT Charts. A PERT chart allows project managers to evaluate the time and resources required for a project. This includes the ability to track assets needed during any stage of production in the course of the entire project. PERT analysis incorporates data and information from multiple departments. This encourages department responsibility, identifies all responsible parties across the organization, improves communication during the course of the project, and allows commitment to projects that encompass the entire company’s strategic positioning. Finally, PERT charts are useful in performing what- if analysis. Different possibilities regarding the flow of project resources and milestones permit management to achieve the most efficient and useful project path. Deficiencies of PERT Charts. The use of a PERT chart is highly subjective and subject to management’s experience. For this reason, PERT charts may include unreliable data or unreasonable estimations in cost or time. PERT charts are mainly focused on meeting deadlines that may not fully communicate the financial positioning of the project. Finally, because a PERT chart is labor intensive, the establishment and maintenance of the information requires additional time and resources in order to be effective. Continual review of the information provided, as well as prospective positioning of the project, is required for PERT charts to hold value.

Purpose and Description. A health unit coordinator is a professional who provides support to medical staff in a facility based setting. They're often referred to as medical secretaries, though that name doesn't do them justice. They are responsible for the overall organization of the facility, and also serve to coordinate communication between staff and patients as well as handling a wide range of other jobs. Nearly any medical facility will have a need for a health unit coordinator, and as such it's a job that is very in demand. The job duties of a health unit coordinator vary tremendously. Some of the things they'll do include, but aren't limited to, the following. Most duties are performed while under supervision of a physician or nurse since their work directly impacts the work of a health unit coordinator. Nature of the Work. The work a health unit coordinator does is primarily office based. Most work involves paperwork, scheduling, and working to handle a variety of different clerical duties. However, additional duties may exist depending upon the specific employer you find work with. Nearly any health facility in the country will employ at least on health unit coordinator, and many employ multiple HUCs. Potential locations for employment include hospitals, nursing homes, medical clinics, insurance companies, private physician practices, public health clinics, rehab centers, and more. As such, finding employment in the field is a fairly straightforward process that yields results quickly. Education and Training. The education required to become a health unit coordinator varies depending upon the employer. In most cases only a high school degree is the base requirement. However, many schools now offer Health Unit Coordinator certificate programs that allow you to earn a certificate in the field within 6 months to a year. These courses cover things like medical terminology, medical transcription, and more. Regardless of completion of the course, possessing good clerical skills and being well- organized is important. Most employers will have a strong preference for employees that have built up experience in the field in some way. For most, the time spent in the program is well worth it thanks to the rewards it provides to them. If you choose to complete a certificate program, continuing on to gain certification from the National Association of Health Unit Coordinators may be worth doing as well. This certification process will allow you to show potential employers that your'e serious about the career and that you're qualified to do it. It isn't generally a requirement for employment, but most employers will show strong preference to those who possess certification from the NAHUC. Despite the relatively lax entry requirements, the career of a health unit coordinator can be very rewarding. Payscale. com lists health unit coordinator salaries as reaching an impressive $4. Additionally, the Bureau of Labor Statistics estimates that the demand for these professionals will rise by 3. Walgreens is the first company to integrate a loyalty program with Android Pay. Walgreens is my drugstore of choice for many reasons. Most importantly, I can refill my prescriptions using my smartphone's camera, thanks to the company's wonderful app - - a huge time saver. Also important to me is the rewards program - - my family saves a lot of money with it. CVS is a nightmare comparatively, but I digress. Today, Walgreens announces that is the first company to integrate a loyalty program with Android Pay. Using their Android phone, they can tap once to both pay and earn points. This latest integration gives the more than 8. To checkout, members then hold their Android device again near the PIN pad for payment. Android Pay is easy to set up and users will continue to receive all of the rewards and benefits offered by credit and debit cards. There are several interfaces in Windows that allow you to configure firewall and IPsec settings. Creating policies in multiple places can lead to conflicts that block traffic. The following configuration points are available. Windows Firewall with Advanced Security. This policy is configured through the Windows Firewall with Advanced Security snap- in either locally or as part of a Group Policy. This policy configures both firewall and IPsec settings for computers running Windows. This policy is configured through the Group Policy Management Editor under Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\Network\Network Connections\Windows Firewall. This interface contains the Windows Firewall settings that were available prior to Windows. These settings can be applied to computers running Windows. Note that some of the domain profile settings are shared between the Windows Firewall Administrative Template and the Windows Firewall with Advanced Security policy, so you can expect to see settings here if you have configured domain profiles settings in the Windows Firewall with Advanced Security snap- in. This policy is configured through the IP Security Policies snap- in either locally or through the Group Policy Management Editor under Computer Configuration\Windows Settings\Security Settings\IP Security Policies. This policy configures IPsec settings that can be understood by earlier versions of Windows as well as Windows. You should not apply this policy and connection security rules from the Windows Firewall with Advanced Security policy on the same computer. To view all these settings in their appropriate snap- ins create a custom MMC snap- in and add the Windows Firewall with Advanced Security snap- in, Group Policy Management snap- in, and the IP Security Monitor snap- in. Click Start, click All Programs, click Accessories, and then click Run. In the Open text box, type mmc, and then press ENTER. If the User Account Control dialog box appears, confirm that the action it displays is what you want, and then click Continue. On the File menu, click Add/Remove Snap- in. In the Available snap- ins list box, click Windows Firewall with Advanced Security, then click Add. Click OK. Repeat steps 1 through 6 to add Group Policy Management snap- in and IP Security Monitor. Before you close the snap- in, save and name the custom console for future use. To verify which policies are active for the active profile, use the following procedure. At the command prompt, type mmc, and then press ENTER. If the User Account Control dialog box appears, confirm that the action it displays is what you want, and then click Continue. On the File menu, click Add/Remove Snap- in. In the Available snap- ins list box, click Group Policy Management, then click Add. Click OK. In the tree, click the subnode (usually the forest in which the local computer resides) and click double- click Group Policy Results in the Detail pane. In the Actions pane, click More Actions and click Group Policy Results Wizard. Click Next. Click This computer or Another computer (type the computer name and path or click browse to locate it). Click Next again. Click Display policy settings for either Current user or Click a specific user. If you do not want to display settings for user policy and want to display computer policy settings only, click Do not display user policy settings in the results (display computer policy settings only), click Next, and Next again. Click Finish. Group Policy Results will generate a report in the Details pane. If that last node is not present, then there is no policy from the IPsec Policy Agent. If the last node is present, the policy name, description, and Group Policy object (GPO) from which the policy originated is displayed. If you have both an IP Security Policies policy and a Windows Firewall with Advanced Security policy using connection security rules, then your connectivity issue could be a result of policy conflicts. We recommend using one policy or the other, but not both. It is fine to use IP Security Policies and Inbound or Outbound rules from Windows Firewall with Advanced Security. Policy conflicts can arise and troubleshooting can become more difficult if settings are configured in one place and not considered when configured in another. There could still be conflicting policies from local Group Policy objects or from scripts your IT department may have run. Verify all IPsec policies using IP Security Monitor or at the command prompt type the following command: netsh ipsec dynamic show all. To see the settings applied by the Windows Firewall Administrative Template, see Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\Network\Network Connections\Windows Firewall. In the same console, you can look at the Policy Events tab to see if there have been any recent issues applying policy. To see which policy is applied by Windows Firewall with Advanced Security, open the snap- in for the computer you are troubleshooting and review the settings in Monitoring. To view Administrative Templates, open the Group Policy Management snap- in and under Group Policy Results, verify if any legacy settings are being applied that might be causing traffic to be blocked. To view IP Security Policies, open the IP Security Monitor snap- in. Click the local computer in the tree. In the Detail pane, click either Active Policy, Main Mode or Quick Mode. Search for any competing policies that might be causing traffic to be blocked. By using Monitoring in the Windows Firewall with Advanced Security snap- in, you can see rules that are currently being applied from both local and Group Policy. This will allow you to see if dropped traffic results from IPsec or Windows Firewall. Click Start and click Control Panel. Click System and Maintenance and click Administrative Tools. Double- click Services and at the User Account Control prompt, supply the correct credentials if required. Click Continue. Locate IPsec Policy Agent in the list of services and verify in the Status column that the service is started. If the IPsec Policy Agent is started, right click IPsec Policy Agent, and then click Stop. Alternatively, you can stop the IPsec Policy Agent at the command prompt by typing net stop policy agent. |
